URMP students recognized during cord-issuing ceremony

22 students who participated in the School of Nursing’s Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program (URMP) were recognized during a cord-issuing ceremony in April. Students who are involved in the program for four or more terms receive cords to wear during their graduation.

“Students who participate in URMP have the opportunity to experience first-hand research practices, which include data collection, preparing IRB, data cleaning and analysis, abstract and manuscript preparation, working in teams, time management, and many others,” said Dr. Julius Kitutu, associate dean for Student Affairs and Alumni Relations, associate professor, and chief diversity officer. “Many of the URMP students have articles published as either first author or co-authors with the research team led by their respective mentors.”

Undergraduate students at all levels are eligible to participate in URMP and their assignments are based on their mentor’s work. The goal of URMP is to introduce students to research methods and to engage them in faculty-led projects and scholarship. Participants are also eligible to attend local and national conferences supported by the School of Nursing.

While 25 students were eligible for cords, 22 attended the cord-issuing ceremony.
