Jillian Lackner, DNP '15, BSN '11

Dr. Jillian Lackner said she decided to become a Nurse Practitioner because she wanted to challenge herself more and continue to learn and grow as a nurse.

“I love that you see so much variety in the family practice setting,” she said. “There really is so much you can do with the degree.”

Lackner said the role of the NP is essential, especially as a family NP, as there is a growing shortage of primary care providers. She said she decided to stay at Pitt to pursue her graduate degree after a successful undergrad experience.

“I loved my undergraduate education and felt prepared to go into the work field,” she said. “To someone thinking about becoming an NP, I would say go for it! The opportunities in the field are vast and rewarding.”
