Jonas Johnson, MD

Johnson is an expert in innovative surgical strategies for the treatment of head and neck cancer, imaging of head and neck tumors, the apoptosis of immune cells in head and neck cancer, the role of radiation in head and neck cancer, and the diagnosis and treatment of infectious and allergic disorders. He has been a close collaborator with the School of Nursing and faculty member Marci Nilsen in establishing the Head and Neck Cancer Survivorship Clinic at UPMC.

A professor who has been director or co-director of more than 80 courses for students, residents, fellows and senior physicians, Johnson has been honored many times with outstanding professor awards. He has presented more than 500 lectures and seminars in national and international venues.

Johnson received his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse. He is a past president of the American Head and Neck Society and the American Academy of Otolaryngology where he remains on the board. He also has been a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons and the president of the Southwestern Pennsylvania chapter of that group.
