Audrey Kreke
DNP, FNP-C
Assistant Professor
Health Promotion & Development
Profile
Dr. Kreke is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Development. As faculty in the Family Nurse Practitioner program, she enjoys sharing her clinical expertise to educate students to become expert practitioners who provide evidence-based care across the lifespan. Dr. Kreke also mentors Doctor of Nursing Practice students in developing their doctoral projects from initial idea through to implementation and dissemination.
Research Areas & Scholarly Emphasis
Dr. Kreke has presented in the field of primary care with a focus on strategies for promoting cancer screenings and using lifestyle interventions for chronic disease. Her current projects focus on using a population health approach with lifestyle interventions to improve control of both hypertension and Type 2 diabetes in primary care. She is also interested in the roles for nurse practitioners in primary care, lifestyle medicine, obesity medicine, and quality improvement within large organizations.
Teaching
Dr. Kreke primarily teaches in the Family Nurse Practitioner area of concentration of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Current courses she is responsible for include Diagnostic Physical Examination Across the Lifespan Lecture and Lab, Differential Diagnosis Lecture and Clinical, Management of Adult Acute/Chronic Disease Lecture and Clinical, NP Role Seminar 2, and NP Role Practicum clinical. She is also faculty for the Transitions course for senior BSN students.
Service
Dr. Kreke has been a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners since 2016 and the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners since 2017. She is an active member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing since 2010. She serves as an Advanced Practice Provider mentor in the UPMC OAPP Mentor Me program. She currently serves as the Education Coordinator for the Nurse Practitioner Association of Southwest Pennsylvania.
Clinical Emphasis
Dr. Kreke has over 15 years of clinical nursing experience in both acute and primary care settings. As a Nurse Practitioner at UPMC Community Medicine, she independently provides comprehensive primary care to adult patients with complex and chronic diseases. She also uses her clinical expertise to provide hospice recertification evaluations for Heritage Hospice.
