Clinical Management Office

The Clinical Management Office (CMO) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is dedicated to supporting students throughout their clinical education journey. The CMO oversees clinical placements for student rotations and ensures compliance with all clinical site requirements, including health screenings and drug testing. Our goal is to make the clinical experience as smooth and successful as possible, and the CMO is here to assist you every step of the way during your time in Pitt Nursing. We also provide assistance to faculty and coordinate partnerships and affiliation agreements with clinical sites and preceptors.

Preceptor Opportunities

The Clinical Management Office (CMO) was established to strengthen clinical education and foster meaningful partnerships with community providers. We recognize that precepting is a generous and impactful contribution to the development of future nurse practitioners, and we are committed to supporting our preceptors in the following ways:

Streamlined Onboarding

We assist with the necessary documentation and onboarding processes to make it easy for providers to begin precepting.

Clear Expectations

We provide detailed guidance on student learning objectives, clinical hour requirements, and evaluation tools to ensure clarity and alignment.

Flexible Scheduling

We work with practices to match students whose schedules and learning needs align with the provider’s availability—some placements can be as minimal as one half-day per week.

Ongoing Support

Our office serves as a point of contact throughout the term to address any questions, concerns, or feedback from preceptors.

Recognition and Engagement

We value our preceptors and look for opportunities to recognize their contributions.
