Mary G. Hoberg
PhD, MSN-ED, RN
Assistant Professor
Health Promotion & Development
Profile
Dr. Hoberg is an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Department of Health Promotion and Development. She teaches the undergraduate women’s health nursing course, focusing on the care of mothers, newborns, and families. With extensive experience in perinatal care, including high-risk newborns and maternal care (antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum), Dr. Hoberg is dedicated to promoting the health and wellness of women.
Dr. Hoberg earned her BSN from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, her MSN in Nursing Education from Robert Morris University in 2019, and her PhD in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh in 2022.
Research Areas & Scholarly Emphasis
Dr. Hoberg’s primary research focuses on improving the diagnostic pathways for noncancerous, female-specific conditions like endometriosis, pelvic pain, and uterine fibroids by enhancing women’s health literacy and self-advocacy skills. She is particularly interested in improving women’s experiences with healthcare providers as they seek answers and care for gynecologic conditions.
Her secondary research interests involve advancing undergraduate nursing education through innovative teaching methods and technology integration. She is especially focused on applying constructivist learning principles in triadic nursing curricula.
Teaching
Dr. Hoberg instructs NUR 1050: Nursing Care of Mothers, Newborns, and Families and NUR 1057/1250c: Nursing Care of Mothers, Newborns, and Families Clinical. Additionally, Dr. Hoberg mentors students in the Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program (URMP) and enjoys guiding them in research projects.
Service
Dr. Hoberg is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses. She also serves on the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN).
