The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing remains in the top 10 in U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of Best Graduate School, released Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
The 2023-2024 ranking placed the School of Nursing DNP (Doctor of Nursing) Practice in the No. 10 spot. The Administrative DNP program was individually ranked at No. 6 (tie). Meanwhile, the Clinical Nurse Leadership (CNL) program, part of Pitt Nursing’s MSN program, was ranked No. 4 in the latest released rankings.
“Pitt Nursing has a reputation as having one of the top-quality DNP programs in the country,” said Christine E. Kasper, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACSM, Dean and professor. “The contributions our graduates make to healthcare and research extend the borders of Pennsylvania. We are extremely proud to see our DNP program being recognized year after year.”
The School of Nursing DNP program received an overall score of 88 out of 100. The U.S. News rankings are based on 14 indicators including quality assessment, faculty resources, DNP student selectivity and DNP program size, and research activity. Pitt’s 2022 DNP acceptance rate of 34.5% is one of the lowest rates out of the top 25 schools, making it one of the most selective programs in the country.
“The U.S. News and World Report rankings are a reflection of the ways our students, faculty, staff and alumni are transforming the future of healthcare and research,” said Dr. Kasper. “At Pitt Nursing, we are paving the way for the next generation of nurse leaders and researchers who are committed to advancing healthcare. These rankings are a key indicator that our peers are taking notice of the extraordinary work of the Pitt Nursing community.”
In terms of faculty, 100% of full-time faculty hold a doctoral degree and the DNP student to faculty ratio is 1.5.
In January, the School of Nursing’s Online MSN program received a No. 7 ranking from U.S. News and World Report. The BSN program is ranked No. 15. These annual rankings are a way to promote and elevate Pitt Nursing’s impact in nursing education, training and influence and guide prospective students in finding programs best suited for their academic and career interests.
