BSN-H graduate wins prestigious university award

Sabella receiving awardA 2023 Pitt Nursing BSN-H graduate was named the University of Pittsburgh’s Emma W. Lock Memorial Award winner.

Sabella Prime BSN-H ’23 beat eight other finalists to be called the winner.

“I was incredibly honored to be selected for the Emma W. Locke Memorial Award,” said Prime. “When my name was announced, and my biography was read, I was filled with immense pride over how many things I accomplished during these last four years. I have participated in so many activities throughout my time at Pitt that I sometimes forget just how many opportunities I was fortunate enough to be a part of.”

According to the University of Pittsburgh, the award recognizes high scholarship, character, leadership, and devotion to the university's ideals. It was established by Charles A. Locke in 1946 in memory of his mother, Emma W. Locke.

“Entering college, I knew I wanted to be an active public servant, leader, scholar, mentor, researcher, and friend,” said Prime. “With so many goals, I did not know if I would be able to achieve them all. Receiving this award was a gratifying moment for me to realize I had in fact achieved all my goals and more, and as I begin the next chapter of my life, I strive to continue to be a positive representation of Pitt Nursing and the nursing profession.”Sabella award

Prime graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was the president of the Black Student Nurses’ Association and was one of the founding members who helped get the club up and running. She received the Black Student Nurses’ Association Leadership Award during the Spring Graduation ceremony.
