Alum elected to lead the National Association of Neonatal Nurses

The National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) has elected a Pitt Nursing graduate to lead its organization.

Taryn Edwards, BSN ’04, was elected President of the NANN, the country's only neonatal nursing professional organization! Edwards said during her senior year at Pitt Nursing, she joined NANN as a student nurse and continued her membership for twenty years. She said her love for neonatal nursing has grown over the last two decades, as well as her dedication to NANN.

“I’m so excited to have been elected as the next president of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses,” said Edwards. “The University of Pittsburgh prepared me for this role by stressing the importance of being actively involved in your nursing organization. Dr. Rose Hoffman stressed to us as senior nursing students that we can make a difference at the bedside in the care we provide and at a local and national level by setting the nursing standards of care for our profession. Dr. Janet Stewart also allowed me to do an independent study during my senior year in the NICU at UPMC Children's Hospital. This prepared me to start my career as a NICU nurse after graduation.”
