Dina (Fradkin) Veytsman is a board-certified psychiatric mental health NP graduating from Pitt Nursing’s DNP program after receiving her undergrad at Pitt. She said becoming an NP unlocks endless career avenues.

“I wanted to have the clinical expertise to provide direct patient care as an advanced practice nurse while also being able to contribute to the overall health care schema domestically and internationally,” she said. “The DNP prepares you to be a leader in the health care or health adjacent spaces.”

Dr. Veytsman said NPs are crucial to the healthcare team who provide effective, safe, patient-centered and comprehensive medical care.

“Depending on the specialty and clinical setting, NPs may be working as part of a larger team, alongside physicians, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, PTs, OTs, and other specialists, or they may be practicing more independently, such as with NP-owned practices (but still collaboratively, of course),” she said.

Dr. Veytsman works in medical affairs in a mental health tech start-up and sees patients in an outpatient private practice.
“If assessing, diagnosing, ordering treatments, evaluating results, and developing long-term relationships with your patients are in your interests, then being an NP is a great choice,” she said. “Being an NP provides you with boundless opportunities. At Pitt, you’re trained to be a leader, whether that’s in direct patient care, industry, academia, or policy.
