Profile

Dr. Rauso has been a CRNA for 24 years with a focus on cardiac, neuro, thoracic, and surgical oncology. His doctoral dissertation was, Prevention of Post-operative Cognitive Dysfunction in High-Risk Elderly Patients. He was a previous professor at the University of Southern California (USC) Nurse Anesthesia Program, serving as the Director of the USC simulation program, and a previous adjunct faculty at La Roche University, in both the MSN and DNAP programs. Dr. Rauso also served as the student coordinator at the USC Nurse Anesthesia Program. His is currently the Specialty Clinical Coordinator at UPMC Shadyside, the transcutaneous aortic valve replacement educator and the key investigator and implementation specialist for anesthesia techniques involving hyperthermic chemoperfusion, ERAS, and ERACS.

Research Areas & Scholarly Emphasis

Dr. Rauso successfully defended his dissertation for DNAP, ‘Prevention of Post Operative Cognitive Dysfunction in High-Risk Elderly Patients’. His research is focused on the clinical use of Ultrasound for peripheral intravenous catheter insertion, Gastric ultrasound examination in GLP-1 patients, Anesthesia techniques to prevent phantom limb pain in surgical amputation patients, and Anesthesia Simulation.

Teaching

Dr. Rauso teaches courses related to Substance Use Disorder, Cardiac Vasopressor Therapy, Cardiac Pharmacology agents and Impact on the cardiac system, Honors Nursing Introduction to Nurse Anesthesia, Anesthesia considerations for head and neck cancer, Cardiac anatomy and physiology, and Renal Physiology.

Service:

Dr. Rauso currently serves as a Mission 22 volunteer, Allison Park Church Food Bank Volunteer, Emergency foster care for Allegheny County, and is a Light of Life volunteer.

Clinical Emphasis

Dr. Rauso's clinical experience is in Thoracic Anesthesia, Major Vascular, Surgical Oncology, Use of POCUS in clinical setting, ERAS. He is a Jehovah Witness preferred provider.
