Faculty Development

POLICY: 

The School of Nursing expects all faculty to participate in educational activities designed to ensure that they maintain expertise in their specialty area and in teaching. Faculty are expected to meet the continuing education requirements to maintain licensure and certification.

PROCEDURE:

Faculty maintain a record of all continuing education activities completed including evidence of the continuing education credits earned for each activity. As part of the annual evaluation process, faculty are to enter all continuing education activities completed during the prior year. This is entered into Continuing Education tab in merit self-evaluation section of Project Concert.

The School of Nursing offers a variety of professional development activities for faculty. These include a regular research methodologies seminar series that focus on current issues and methods in quantitative and qualitative research. Continuing education credits are offered for these seminars. The School of Nursing also offers Faculty Forums focusing on teaching. Continuing education credits are awarded for attending the faculty forums.

In addition to these ongoing educational sessions, the School offers individual faculty development support through the School’s research HUBs which offer various research-related faculty development opportunities for faculty.

The School of Nursing Department of Professional Development and Continuing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This Department reviews faculty development educational activities for conferral of continuing education credits. They also offer live/webinar and online continuing education activities that are available to faculty.

Individual faculty development support for teaching is offered by the School of Nursing Center for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the University Center for Teaching and Learning.
