Admission: Doctor of Philosophy Nursing Minor

POLICY: 

Students enrolled in any PhD program at the University of Pittsburgh may apply for a minor in the nursing PhD program. All courses in the nursing PhD program are open to students enrolled in other PhD programs at the University. Only one minor can be pursued for each degree. The completed minor appears on the official transcript when the degree is awarded.

PROCEDURE:

1. Students wishing to enroll in a minor or in nursing PhD courses must contact the PhD Program Director, School of Nursing.
2. The minor in Nursing requires a minimum of 15 credits. Any combination of the following courses may be used toward the minor in Nursing:
   NUR 3285: Philosophical Underpinnings of Nursing Research – 3 cr.
   NUR 3286: Theoretical Foundations for Research of Nursing – 3 cr.
   NUR 3287: Research Design and Methods – 3 cr.
   NUR 3288: Research Measurement – 2 cr.
   NUR 3289: Intervention Development – 2 cr.
   NUR 3290: Advanced Quantitative Analytic Methods Seminar – 3 cr.
   NUR 3291: Responsibilities and Activities of Scientists 1 – 2 cr.
   NUR 3292: Responsibilities and Activities of Scientists 2 – 2 cr.
   NUR 3293: Art and Science of Teaching and Learning – 2 cr.
3. Prerequisite courses may be required.
4. School of Nursing faculty may offer an independent study (NUR 3060) as negotiated by the student/faculty.
