Sandra J. Engberg, PhD, RN, CRNP, FAAN
Biography
Dr. Engberg’s research interests include gerontology, women`s health and urinary incontinence. Her research has focused on interventions for urinary incontinence in women, men with prostate cancer and homebound elders. Studies include clinical trials examining the efficacy of acupuncture for women with urinary incontinence and biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle training for urinary incontinence in older men and women including homebound elders. She has also examined the cost-effectiveness of providing behavioral therapies for urinary incontinence in older adults.
Teaching
Dr. Engberg has taught courses in global health, physical assessment, geriatric management, women’s health, research methods, evidence-based practice, manuscript writing, She has taught BSN, MSN, DNP and PhD students and have chaired PhD dissertation and DNP project committees
Clinical Emphasis
Dr. Engberg’s professional service focuses on urinary incontinence. I am currently the Continence Section Editor for the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing. She is the director of the International Continence Society Institute School of Nursing. She served as a Department Chair and as Associate Dean for Graduate Clinical Education in the School of Nursing. She also had a joint appointment as a visiting professor at the Institute of Nursing Science at the University of Basel for 12 years.
