POLICY: 

It is the policy of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing to appoint a licensed registered nurse (RN) with a doctoral (DNP or PhD) degree with either the baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing, to serve as the Director of Professional Development and Continuing Education (Accredited Provider Program Director) for the Provider Unit.

PROCEDURE:

  1. The Dean will appoint the Director of Professional Development & Continuing Education. Candidates for consideration may be faculty, staff, consultants, or committee members.
  2. Qualifications for the position require education and experience in nursing, nursing education, continuing education, and adult education methods.
  3. The individual selected, if not a full-time faculty member, must have a joint or adjunct appointment on the faculty.
  4. The individual selected is accountable for the operation of the Provider Unit, ensuring adherence to the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Accreditation Program criteria as it relates to nursing continuing professional development educational activities.
