Joint Providership of NCPD Educational Activities

POLICY:

The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation. As a Provider Unit, the School of Nursing may work collaboratively with two or more external organizations to plan, implement, and evaluate NCPD educational activities. This collaboration will be known as a Joint Providership.

PROCEDURE:

1. All Joint Providership requests will be reviewed and approved by the Director of Professional Development & Continuing Nursing Education (Accredited Program Provider Director). The joint provider must not be an ineligible company.
2. A Nurse Planner from the Provider Unit must be directly involved in all educational activity development stages, from initial planning through implementation and evaluation.
3. The Provider Unit is responsible for obtaining a fully executed joint provider agreement signed by an authorized representative from the joint provider that outlines the educational activity’s tasks and responsibilities involved in planning, implementing, and evaluating the activity along with the inclusion of any financial agreement terms. The final responsibility and accountability regarding the educational event remain with the School of Nursing. The Joint Provider Agreement will be kept on file with the School of Nursing Provider Unit with the associated required documentation for the NCPD educational activity for a minimum of six (6) years.
