Admission and Financial Aid: Undergraduate

POLICY:

Applicants who plan to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (as well as most other states) are advised that upon application for the Registered Nurse Licensure Examination, the Board of Nursing will inquire as to whether the applicant has been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, felonious act, an illegal act associated with alcohol, or an illegal act associated with substance abuse(s). Prospective students in this situation should call the Board of Nursing in the state where they plan to practice.

The University Administration will establish the maximum number of students to be admitted.

The School of Nursing will communicate to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid each year the size of the class to be admitted.

The School of Nursing will set a limit for full-time and transfer students.

The School of Nursing will establish the criteria to be used for the admission of students.

The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid will admit, without consultation with the School of Nursing, applicants who fall within categories which are developed annually by the School of Nursing.

The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid can reject, without consultation with the School of Nursing, applicants who fall within categories which are developed annually by the School of Nursing.

All other applicants will be referred to the School of Nursing for a decision.

The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid may submit the record of any applicant to the School of Nursing for a decision if it is felt that there are extenuating circumstances warranting a closer examination of the record.

The School of Nursing reserves the right to admit or reject the applicants sent to it for decisions.

The School of Nursing will review any applicant with a self-reported major health problem in order to provide information and guidance regarding the requirements of the program.

Applications for admission must be in the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid before or on the deadline date. The School of Nursing, in consultation with the University Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, will determine when applications will no longer be accepted or considered.

The deadline for the deposit will be May 1st of each year. The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid will consult with the Center for Student Success of the School of Nursing concerning the acceptance of paid admissions claimed after that date.
