ResearchThe focus of my research is the genetics of postoperative symptoms. Specifically I am currently studying the association of several genes and postoperative and post discharge nausea and vomiting in women following surgery for breast and ovarian cancer. We would like to be able to understand why some women do not respond to antiemetic medications, and to predict who is at greatest risk.
TeachingThis term I am teaching the undergraduate ethics course, and in the spring will teach the undergraduate genetics course. In addition, I guest lecture in other courses taught at the School of Nursing
ServiceI serve on the Nursing Research Priorities Task Force for the Oncology Nursing Society, where I also serve on the Putting Evidence into Practice team for nausea and vomiting. I am the Co-chair of the Research Committee for the International Society for Nurses in Genetics, as well as the Continuing Education Committee. I am a reviewer for the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing and the Journal of Perianesthesia Nurses.
