Doctoral student receives scholarship to present at national conference

The 2024 49th annual Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Congress, the largest conference dedicated to oncology nursing, will feature a presentation from a Pitt Nursing doctoral student.

Myeong-ga Cho, MSN, RN, was awarded a $2,000 ONS Congress Scholarship and will present her research poster, “The Association of DNA Methylation of BDNF and RASA2 Genes with Processing Speed and Self-reported Cognitive Function in Postmenopausal Women with Early-stage Breast Cancer Prescribed Endocrine Therapy.”

“I am honored to accept this scholarship and get an opportunity to present my study at the 2024 ONS Congress,” said Cho. “Receiving this scholarship is a pivotal moment in my journey as a doctoral student. It supports a unique opportunity to deepen my understanding of cancer-related cognitive decline and to disseminate my research results as well. This scholarship is much more than financial support. I believe this award would boost the beginning of my academic journey as a nursing scientist, focusing on the impact of epigenetic changes on cognitive function in patients with cancer.”

The ONS Congress is April 24-28 in Washington, D.C.

“I sincerely appreciate the support from all the mentors and members of the Cancer Survivorship and Genomics of Patient Outcomes Hubs,” said Cho.

The ONS is a professional association representing 100,000 nurses and more than 35,000 members.
