Paula Sherwood
PhD, RN, CNRN, FAAN
Professor
Acute & Tertiary Care
Profile
My nursing career has been rich in advanced clinical practice and federally funded research. In both areas, I have focused on biologic and behavioral mechanisms and outcomes in patients with neurologic conditions. My primary research focus is examining how the stress response in family caregivers of persons with a primary malignant brain tumor is manifested and implementing interventions to affect caregiver outcomes.
Teaching
I have taught a variety of courses in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. I have also developed courses in graduate courses. The majority of my teaching focuses on curriculum in the PhD and DNP programs and have included courses such as Evidence Based Practice, Manuscript Development, Professional Development, and Grant Writing.
Service
I have the opportunity to serve on committees and projects in the areas of Oncology and Neuroscience. I also work closely with lay groups in neuro-oncology. I also spend time working with federal research and clinical groups such as the National Institutes of Health and in particular the National Cancer Institute.
