Health & Community Systems
My research interests focus on primary health care with a special interest in depression and depression-cardiovascular disease comorbidity, particularly among vulnerable, older adults. The overall goal of my program of research is to improve outcomes and reduce the personal burden of depression by increasing the capacity of primary care providers to recognize, diagnose, and effectively treat this prevalent mood disorder. I am a Scholar of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing Research.
I am certified as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and have extensive experience providing comprehensive primary care services to adults in internal medicine /geriatrics in a variety of outpatient settings.
My teaching responsibilities focus on the doctoral education of nurse practitioner students across specialty areas, with a special emphasis on the didactic and clinical courses of the AGPCNP specialty.
I am an active member of the American Association for Nurse Practitioners (AANP) where I serve on the Research Committee and Advisory Board of the AANP Network for Research. I am also a member of the American Heart Association, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, Gerontological Society of America, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Eta Chapter), and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. In addition, I am on the Editorial Board of Urologic Nursing and serve as a manuscript reviewer for several professional journals.
