Advanced Practice Provider Oncology Web Education Resource

The Advanced Practice Provider Oncology Web Education Resource (AP POWER) course, developed by Margaret Rosenzweig, PhD, FNP-BC, AOCNP, FAAN from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and funded by the National Cancer Institute is being offered nationally to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in their first year of oncology practice paired with an on-site mentor (physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or advanced practice nurse). The course is available free of charge and is being offered as a continuing education program.

The course curriculum consists of 5 interactive online modules:

  1. The new patient
  2. Patient presentation
  3. The cancer care continuum
  4. Palliative and hospice care
  5. Self-care and professional growth

The modules introduce some of the “real life” practice and communication challenges that the APP, new to oncology, will likely encounter. The on-site mentors will guide the APP in applying the course content to local clinical practice. The course will be available to the APPs and mentors for 3 months.

The nurse practitioner will receive 30 continuing education contact hours for completing the course and the mentors will be paid $250 as an honorarium for participation. For more information please contact Sara Klein, or go to this website
