Profile

Dr. Allison received her BSN (1982), MSN (1987) with a specialization as a family nurse practitioner, and DNP (2012) all from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She received her School Nurse Certification from Carlow University in 1989 and has her Educational Specialist II School Nurse PK-12.

Dr. Allison worked as a nurse practitioner in the Pittsburgh Public Schools full-time for 27 years and now works part time for the district doing sport physical examinations, orientation of new Health Services staff, and performing state mandated physicals and screenings, as well as participating in other special projects. During her tenure in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, she was a Nurse Team Leader, was elected School Nurse of the Year in Pennsylvania by PASNAP (1993), was elected Regional School Nurse of the Year, Pittsburgh, PA by PASNAP (2003), and received the School Nurse Excellence Award, Pittsburgh Region by PASNAP (2011). 

Dr. Allison joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing as an assistant professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Development in 2016. Prior to this appointment, she was an Adjunct Professor for the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing from 1995 to 2016. She teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program and the School Nurse Certificate program. 

Dr. Allison actively is involved with professional organizations including Three Rivers National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, where she serves on the board as the school nurse liaison and assists on the education committee. She is a member of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners (PASNAP), and the PA Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (PCNP). She is a reviewer for the Journal of School Nursing (NASN). 

Dr. Allison volunteers for the Sheep Inc. Health Care Center, which provides free health care to the uninsured.
