2017-2018 O’Neil Center-University of Pittsburgh Nurse Scholars Fellows

Two predoctoral students have been selected for the 2017-2018 O’Neil Center-University of Pittsburgh Nurse Scholars Fellows program. Sun Ran and Linden Wu will receive mentorship from the program this coming year.

The O’Neil Center, part of the GetWellNetwork, has a mission to advance the science of patient and family engagement in health across the care continuum.

This fellowship provides an opportunity for the students to participate in Center initiatives, explore research questions utilizing the Center’s vast data repository, and make scientific contributions that align with their training goals and advance the science of patient and family engagement in health across the care continuum. The students will be guided through the shared mentorship of the O’Neil Center (Karen Drenkard, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, Ellen Swartwout, PhD, RN, NEA-BC) and the School of Nursing (Annette DeVito Dabbs, PhD, RN, FAAN).

The students’ projects through the shared mentorship will include:
  • Examining and analyzing data for quality of care metrics
  • Working on a literature review for topics of interest including fall risk reduction and transition of care
  • Creating an educational presentation based on literature review
  • Exploring a secondary analysis of the Person Engagement Index and examining the impact of technology solutions
