My research interests focus on primary care with a special interest in aging issues, the patient-provider relationship and patient-provider communication. As a nurse practitioner, I am interested in NP practice, practice outcomes, and increasing NP capacity in older adult primary care. Currently I am examining barriers to older adult depression care in primary care and depression-cardiovascular disease comorbidity. In 2012, I was selected as a Scholar of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing Research.

I teach courses in our graduate (MSN and DNP) primary care nurse practitioner programs. My primary teaching responsibilities are NP Role Seminar I (NURNP 2026), NP Role Practicum (Adult) (NURNP 2028), and DNP NP Role Practicum (Adult-Gero) (3038).

I am a member of Admission, Progression & Graduation (APG) and the MSN and DNP Councils within the School of Nursing and serve as the coordinator of our geriatric nurse researcher special interest group. I participate in the SON Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program (URMP) and currently mentor undergraduate nursing students in all aspects of the research process. At the national level, I am a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, The Gerontological Society of America, National Gerontological Nursing Association, American Heart Association, and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. I hold membership in Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing where I am on the Governance Committee and serve as Counselor, Eta Chapter.

I am an experienced primary care nurse practitioner and maintain clinical practice in internal medicine/geriatrics. I hold national certifications through the ANCC as both an adult and gerontological nurse practitioner.
