Research
Dr. Magdic has published and presented nationally on issues associated with the role and scope of practice of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She is actively involved in efforts to influence development of legislation aimed at removing barriers to NP practice. Her main focus relates to improving reimbursement for nurse practitioner practice. She represents the School of Nursing on the newly formed Pennsylvania Alliance of APRNs and has been working closely with the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania in developing guidelines to aid hospitals in implementing the role of the nurse practitioner. She was invited to testify before the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Professional Licensure Committee on educational preparation of nurse practitioners. She was the recipient of the Distinguished Clinical Scholar Award which allowed her to study policy issues that impact reimbursement for nurse practitioners services. She was invited to attend a Leadership Fellowship Program in Washington, DC that provided an opportunity to network with legislators regarding issues of importance to NPs and currently chairs the School of Nursing Health Policy Committee.Teaching
She is responsible for ongoing advancement of the Adult -Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program and is the Subspecialty Coordinator of the Cardiopulmonary Clinical Emphasis. She is Primary Teacher for Management of Adult Episodic/Chronic Health Problems in Acute Care and the Cardiopulmonary Clinical Emphasis course. In addition, she teaches selected lectures in advanced pathophysiology, advanced physical assessment, differential diagnosis and role seminar to graduate nursing students. She maintains a practice as an ACNP on an inpatient cardiology service at UPMC Presbyterian. In recognition of her teaching, she was the 2011 recipient of the Cameos of Caring Outstanding Educator AwardService
She has served as a consultant to national and international universities interested in developing an ACNP Program. She has chaired and been member of a number of School of Nursing committees. In addition, she is a member of the University Student Affairs Committee. She serves on the Evidence-Based Practice Council, UPMC Scientific Review Committee and Co-Chairs the UPMC APRN Consensus Model Implementation Taskforce. She has been a long-time member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties where she has co-chaired and now chairs the ACNP Special Interest Group. She has served as a member and Chair of the ACNP Content Expert Panel for the American Nurses Credentialing Center and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the newly formed Appointments Committee. She served as President of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Southwestern PA and was recently elected as Vice-President of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse PractitionersEducation
