Precision Medicine: Incorporation of Genetics and Genomics into Nursing Practice

November 21, 2016 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm

This continuing education event is intended to prepare nurses and nurse researchers to participate in (and benefit from) Precision Medicine, defined as "an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person" to design targeted, more effective treatments. Our presenters will cover genetic/genomic concepts, how these concepts apply to promoting health and treating disease, and how to apply them to daily nursing practice and research. Nurses, from RNs at the bedside to advanced practice nurses in the clinical setting, will come away with a better understanding of genomics including the concepts of pharmacogenomics and genetic testing and the role it plays in patient care.
