Support Pitt Nursing

GIve to PITT

Message from the Dean

For over 70 years, the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing has attracted and retained the best and brightest students from around the world.  In fact, more than 61% of our Fall 2010 freshman class ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class.  We are proud of our nearly 12,000 alumni who have been integral in the delivery of quality health care and in shaping nursing’s future as educators and researchers.

In April 2010, 288 students graduated from one of our three nursing programs.  Many of these students wouldn’t have had the opportunity to earn a nursing degree without the scholarship support provided by School of Nursing donors.  Because of the generosity of our alumni and friends, we awarded 166 scholarships - totaling over a half a million dollars - to our nursing students during the 2009-2010 academic year. These deserving students often remark that, without scholarship support, they would not have achieved their academic goals.  Scholarship support not only assists them financially but is also a vote of confidence as they move along their educational journeys.

Many of our graduates who received scholarships as students are now giving back through donations to scholarship funds. These alumni are shining examples for our current students and demonstrate a commitment to the profession.

Philanthropy is essential to the School of Nursing achieving its mission to advance the science and practice of nursing through the education and preparation of top-notch nursing professionals.  It has helped build our prestigious reputation and has positively impacted the lives of the students you will read about on the pages of this Web site.
If you would like to learn how you can make a difference, please contact School of Nursing Director of Alumni Relations & Development Janice Devine at jad154@pitt.edu or at 412-624-7541.
