Health Promotion and Development

The Department of Health Promotion and Development (HPD) is responsible for the Family, Pediatric, Neonatal and Adult Nurse Practitioner Programs, as well as undergraduate courses in Maternity, Pediatrics, Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics and Nutrition.

The Master's programs of study in the Department of Health Promotion and Development prepares students to be principal providers of care, assuming responsibility for promoting, maintaining and/or restoring the health of individuals.

Our graduate students will receive a Master's of Science (MSN) degree upon completion of study and are eligible for legal certification by the State Board of Nursing as Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs). They are also eligible to sit for professional certification examinations offered by appropriate professional organizations. Nurse Practitioners who need pharmacology credits to obtain their Prescriptive Authority may take a Pharmacology class held during Spring or Summer terms.

The department offers Distance Education classes to our regional campuses in Johnstown (UPJ) and Bradford (UPB) for students in our Master's Family Nurse Practitioner program. Students at these campuses can take all classes at regional campuses with the exception of Physical Diagnosis.

Health Promotion and Development also offers a PhD program degree with an emphasis on Adolescent Health.

Courses in Maternity and Pediatrics, Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics and Nutrition are offered for Undergraduate students who are obtaining their Bachelors in Nursing (BSN).
