The Nursing Administration concentration prepares nurses to function in leadership and management roles at the department or director level. The curriculum builds on students' experiences in direct care nursing roles and provides the knowledge base needed to develop the conceptual, interpersonal, and technical skills required to function in health care management and administration.
The Nursing Administration concentration is designed for individuals who wish to make a positive contribution to patient outcomes and service delivery in ways that support and complement direct patient care. Its curriculum is designed to prepare nursing leaders to meet complex and rapidly evolving challenges facing the health care industry.
Core courses provide a foundation in research for evidence-based practice, nursing outcomes, use of technology, health promotion and organizational theory. Enhancing this knowledge are cognates in finance/economics, health policy, and leadership development. Each focal area includes a uniquely designed clinical residency with access to a wide range of clinical sites, including one of the premier health care systems in the country.
Faculty in the Nursing Administration area of concentration include individuals with extensive experience in leadership of clinical systems, executive practice, professional communication, system development, and health policy.
