This course is the culminating nurse midwifery practicum with the student focusing on the practice of full scope nurse midwifery under the guidance and supervision of a Certified Nurse Midwife preceptor. Full scope nurse midwifery care encompasses counseling and management during the preconception, pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, neonatal period, and across the reproductive life cycle within the family.

This practicum targets the nurse midwifery model of care in implementation of evidence-based practices and interventions that serve as the basis for the management of health conditions associated with family-centered pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, and the neonatal period.  The implementation of culturally sensitive and appropriate antepartal to postpartal to neonatal care drawn from diverse theoretical frameworks is also a primary focus of the course.

The NM DNP scope of practice with interprofessional collaboration and referral is incorporated.

Professional, inter-professional, economic, cultural, and legal issues related to NM practice will be emphasized. Nurse Anesthesia NUR 1142 2 Professional Issues in Advanced Practice Nursing

This course is designed to provide the undergraduate nursing student with an understanding of the role of the nurse anesthetist as an advanced practice nurse.  Emphasis will be placed on exploring 1) the advanced practice role as a nurse anesthetist, 2) health care policies affecting nurse anesthesia practice, and 3) evidence based practice in nurse anesthesia practice.  Students will describe the opportunities and barriers for nurse anesthetists in a variety of practice settings. Students will also explore the implications of health care policies at the national, state and local level on practice.
