The purpose of this HUB is to examine the association between disease-and treatment-related symptoms and patient and provider adherence to prescribed cancer therapy. The long-term goal of our combined efforts is the development of effective, tailored symptom management interventions, fundamental to improving cancer therapy adherence. A clear description of the patient’s symptom experience, the relationship between symptoms and adherence to cancer therapy, and an examination of the genetic variations explaining the presence and severity of symptoms and nonadherence are key to the development of such interventions.
