Nursing Administration Area of Concentration
The Nursing Administration concentration prepares nurses to function in leadership and management roles at the department or director level. The curriculum builds on students' experiences in staff nursing and provides the knowledge base needed to develop the conceptual, interpersonal, and technical skills required to function in health care management and administration. The Nursing Administration concentration is designed for individuals who wish to make a positive contribution to patient outcomes and service delivery in ways other than through direct patient care.
The Nursing Administration curriculum is designed to prepare nursing leaders to meet the rapid changes and complex challenges facing the health care industry. Core courses provide a foundation in research for evidence based practice, nursing outcomes, use of technology, leadership development and organizational theory. This knowledge is then enhanced with cognates in economics, health policy, and management of resources. Each focal area includes a uniquely designed clinical residency with access to a wide range of clinical sites, including one of the premier health care systems in the country. In addition to the School of Nursing, courses may be offered through the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Public Health, and the Katz School of Business.
Faculty in the Nursing Administration area of concentration include individuals with extensive experience in leadership of clinical systems, executive practice, professional communication and development, and health policy.
A Doctor of Nursing Practice option is also available for those interested in the Nursing Administration Concentration.
