Clinical Ethics for Nurses
This is a fundamental clinical ethics course providing the practicing nurse with information about terms, concepts and theories commonly used in clinical ethics. Specific units focus on ethics in clinical practice, ethical decision making and use of hospital ethics committees and landmark cases. Reflective and guided exercises focused on personal philosophy, values and working through ethical issues will help the nurse to clarify when an ethical dilemma exists, what ethical issues are involved, and how an ethical position can be explained to others. The voice of the ethics-articulate nurse and collaboration with other health care providers are viewed as tools for creating an ethically responsible organization and ethically aware health care consumers. The participant will have opportunities to evaluate his/her knowledge of ethics and to access resources to expand ethics knowledge and skills. This course is for registered nurses from diverse educational and specialty backgrounds. Other health care providers (such as physical therapists, occupational therapists and social workers) seeking a basic course in clinical ethics would benefit from this course.
Enrolled participants have 6 months to complete the modules.
