About the Nursing Alumni Association
Statement of Purpose
The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing Alumni Society’s purpose is to provide a forum for nearly 12,000 graduates to:
- Maintain personal and professional relationships to keep alumni connected
- Foster networking
- Promote pride in the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing by perpetuating established traditions and nurturing new ones
- Demonstrate the alumni role to current students, our future alumni, through scholarship support, mentorship and as professional role models
- Support the alumni effort at the University level through membership in the Pitt Alumni Association

We are proud of our accomplishments
- Collaborated with the Nursing Student Association to present the NURStudentEnrichmentSeries, a series geared to undergraduate nursing students to provide one-hour programs on a variety of topics from how to write a resume to how to apply to graduate school; two more programs set for Spring Term
- Presented an alumni panel in senior level “Transitions into Professional Nursing Practice” class
- Represented nursing profession at “Pathways to Professions” during Homecoming Weekend
- Welcomed returning alumni in Alumni Hospitality Tent at Heinz Field prior to Homecoming Football Game
- Mentored students as part of the School’s mentorship program
- Conducted successful fundraisers, proceeds of which are directed to nursing student scholarships and student initiatives
- Represented the Nursing Alumni Society on Pitt Alumni Association’s Board of Directors
- Earned Gold Banner Status in the Pitt Alumni Association’s Banner Program
- Participated at April Pinning Ceremony and welcomed graduates as our newest alumni
- Hosted annual Alumni Day event and presented Distinguished and Honorary Alumni Awards and student scholarship awards
Goals for Academic Year 2008 – 2009:
- Conduct a recruitment drive to engage alumni in the Nursing Alumni Society Executive Board
- Plan a ‘meet & greet’ event as part of the recruitment drive
- Continue to maintain an alumni presence at the School of Nursing with the hope of becoming alumni role models for current students
- Host a Nursing Alumni Society Game Watch
- Host annual Alumni Day event
